What wouldn't you do for love?
The True Love Initiative is a larp about connection, desperation, dysfunctional relationships and the frantic search for meaning through love.
The characters will exist in and explore complicated romantic relationships that for them are the center of their world. Their ideas of love and happiness will be tested as their relationships are pushed to the limits through outside forces but also by themselves and each other.
This larp will explore these complex dynamics, themes of existentialism and codependency, all the while pretending to be a sort of simple fun retreat amongst friends.
At its cornerstone this larp is about being forced to re-evaluate a relationship you found infallible, all the while questioning what true connection, love and meaning really is. It's about people who believe they will only find happiness and meaning through love, and how that need forms them. It is also a larp that centers around the concept of love being a very specific thing (monogamous, romantic, sexual, etc), and how that shapes the relationships as they all try to adhere to a very limited view on what love should look like.
This is not a romantic reality-show larp.
This larp does have themes and content that are similar to romance reality-shows, but first of all, the characters are not in a reality show but a very private event where only they and “the program” is present.
Second of all, this larp is not about happy-go-lucky romance. The larp does have heavy themes about romance, about falling in love, about searching for meaning through love--and during the game the characters will be heavily pushed and manipulated to explore romance with others. But at its core, the romance of this larp has a harsher nature to it. It is about desperation, about not choosing for yourself, about doing anything to make love work despite the consequences. In many ways, this larp could be described as romantic horror/thriller, so be aware of that before you sign up to this game.
